What is the manufacturing process?

Our process begins on handlooms, operated by skilled artisans in their local villages. Using a variety of yarns—cotton, organic cotton, silk, and linen—these looms transform raw fibers into durable, high-quality fabrics that form the foundation of our sarees. Once woven, the fabrics are often block-printed at the artisans’ homes, preserving the authenticity and individuality of each piece. Artisans use natural dyes or azo-free colors, ensuring that each saree not only carries a story but is also environmentally responsible.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

From cotton to silk, we source diverse, sustainable yarns to craft heritage textiles for modern lifestyles. From cotton to silk, we source diverse, sustainable yarns to craft heritage textiles for modern lifestyles.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

We source raw materials directly from local villages, strengthening rural supply chains and ensuring traceability from origin to finished product. It increases income opportunities for rural producers, shortens lead times, and ensures greater transparency and quality control.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Sarees, with their rich fabrics and intricate designs, can be repurposed into a wide variety of products, extending their lifecycle and reducing textile waste. You can convert them to stoles, dupattas, dresses, or pass them on to next generations a s a heirloom.

Mumbai based Ritu Oberoi is the founder of ForSarees, a digital brand that sells handloom sarees made by weavers and artisans from all across India.

A former Accounts Director at ABP Network, Ritu created a brand which shines a spotlight on one of our country's greatest assets, our Handloom Sector.

ForSarees isn’t simply a clothing brand, but a socially-driven business enterprise that works closely with weavers and artisans in rural India, bringing skillfully crafted sarees and other products to urban consumers.

Founded in 2018, Ritu believed that her corporate position had provided her with the knowledge and experience to establish her own business. Ritu used her sabbatical time to discover her entrepreneurial streak. She was astounded to witness so much ability and talent when visiting craft villages, yet residents struggled to market these things beyond a specific exhibition. She was aware of the void in the handloom sector.
