What is the manufacturing process?

Studio Shashi follows a craft-led, sustainable manufacturing process. Designs are developed through research and sampling, followed by sourcing of natural fibers and handloom fabrics directly from artisan clusters. Skilled weavers translate these into textiles using the traditional technique of Ikat. Each piece undergoes eco-conscious finishing, quality checks, and is presented in minimal, sustainable packaging.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

Studio Shashi emphasizes natural, sustainable, and locally sourced materials that align with its craft-driven ethos. Natural Fibers – Cotton, Tussar silk, Eri silk, Mulberry silk and blends sourced from local clusters or local market. Handloom Yarns – Traditionally spun yarns used for weaving. Dyes – We source our dyes from local market and it includes some chemicals to hold on the color fastness. Sometimes we explore with plant-based and mineral-derived dyes where possible. Supporting Materials – Threads for finishing, eco-friendly starch/softeners, and minimal trims. Packaging Materials – Recycled craft paper, cotton fabric bags, and biodegradable wraps.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

The sourcing process prioritizes authenticity, sustainability, and fair trade practices, supporting craftspeople while reducing the studio’s ecological footprint. Direct from Artisan Clusters – Handloom yarns are sourced from weaving clusters or local market, ensuring fair engagement with local weavers. Local & Sustainable Procurement – Natural fibers like cotton and tussar silk are procured from regional suppliers to minimize environmental impact. But sometimes we explore other regional yarns for experimentation.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Yes, Studio Shashi products are made from natural fibers and eco-friendly processes, making them safe to return to the environment. During their life, they can be repurposed into accessories, home textiles, or upcycled craft projects. Beyond use, most textiles can be composted at home, as they are free from harmful synthetics and plastics.
