Craftizen Designs

Craftizen Designs is the artisanal product arm of the broader Craftizen initiative, dedicated to celebrating and sharing handcrafted Indian artistry through thoughtfully designed products available on shop.craftizen.org. The brand curates a diverse range of handcrafted items - from Channapatna wooden puzzles, games, and décor to DIY craft kits, folk-art magnets, and functional lifestyle accessories - each reflecting traditional craft techniques with contemporary appeal. Rooted in the vision of bridging traditional crafts with modern markets, Craftizen Designs offers products that are aesthetically engaging, culturally rich, and sustainable. The collection blends playful creativity (like puzzles and nesting dolls) with functional elegance (such as spectacle holders and wooden bookends), making them ideal for gifting, decor, and daily use.

Founded by Mayura Balasubramanian

Mayura Balasubramanian is the Founder and CEO of Craftizen Foundation.

  • Background: She is an alumna of the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad (MBA) and has over 20 years of experience across the corporate, development, and education sectors.
  • Inspiration: Her vision for Craftizen was shaped during her time handling a national rural tourism project with the UNDP (United Nations Development Program) and the Ministry of Tourism. During this project, which spanned 36 villages across 20 states, she observed a widening gap between traditional rural artisans and the evolving needs of urban consumers.
  • Goal: She founded Craftizen in 2014 (with initial support from a NABARD Social Entrepreneur Fellowship) to act as a "business acumen partner" for the handicraft sector. Her work focuses on "Green Skilling"—upcycling discarded materials like temple flowers and silk threads—while providing dignified livelihoods to underprivileged women and adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Recognition: Mayura was selected as one of the 75 Women Transforming India by Niti Aayog and the United Nations in 2021-22.
