Crafted by JOD

The name "JOD" embodies the essence of connection—joining surfaces, fabrics, artforms and people that foster meaningful relationships. Born from a love for sustainability and design, JOD reimagines fabrics that are flawed and stained as a canvas for expression. Our journey begins with discarded materials—stained, flawed, and deemed inefficient by industrial standards. Through techniques like hand painting, embroidery, and applique, we embrace these imperfections, turning them into timeless designs.

About Crafted by JOD

Crafted by JOD - Brown Living™

JOD is born from what’s often overlooked, stained, flawed, and discarded fabrics that never make it to the showroom. Instead of rejecting these materials, we begin with them. The name JOD means to join, joining fabric with art. Each fabric arrives with its own marks and irregularities, guiding the design rather than limiting it. Through hand painting, embroidery and machine applique, we transform these fabrics into homeware, apparel, and accessories. Our process is slow and hands-on. We don’t aim to erase imperfections but work with them, layering, enhancing, and reimagining each surface so no two pieces are ever the same. Women-made and women-run, JOD believes sustainability is not just about materials, but about care, time, and respect. Our pieces are meant to be lived with, quiet, thoughtful objects that carry stories into everyday spaces.

Mission Statement

What is the manufacturing process?

We procure stained, flawed, and imperfect fabrics from factories, mills, or wholesale suppliers. Each fabric is then analyzed to identify stains, tears, and imperfections, using them as the foundation for design inspiration. The fabric is then transformed through techniques like hand painting to create artistic motifs, embroidery to add intricate details, and applique to introduce layered designs or cover larger flaws. The enhanced fabric is then washed and treated to ensure durability and consistency in color and texture. We then conduct quality checks to ensure the final fabric meets design and usability standards. The fabric is finally cut and stitched into finished products, including apparel, homeware, and accessories.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

Our materials include cotton and upcycled fabrics. These materials require less water, fewer chemicals, and are biodegradable or recyclable, making them eco-friendly choices. We aim to minimise environmental impact by using eco-friendly materials.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

We source surplus and rejected fabrics from textile industries across India. These materials are often rejected for minor flaws but are repurposed by JOD through creative interventions

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Yes, JOD's products can be repurposed at home as these are cotton fabrics only. These materials are biodegradable making them eco-friendly choices. These can be repurposed through either hand painting at home or can be transformed into different products.
