Rustic Horse is a homegrown Indian glass studio born from a passion for glass artistry and timeless craftsmanship. Inspired by 16th century glass-blowing techniques of Murano, Italy, we set out to create more than just everyday objects—we craft functional art. Each item is individually handcrafted by skilled Indian glass artists. Ecah pc is unique, no two pieces are the same—because no two moments of inspiration are ever alike. Rustic Horse is a fusion of rustic charm, european design techniques infused with rich artistic expressions of India. With every creation, we aim to bring a fresh, modern aesthetic to your home, one piece of glass at a time.

What is the manufacturing process?

It begins with a torch—intensely hot and precise. Rods or tubes of glass are slowly introduced to the flame torch, where they soften, glow, and begin to melt. Our skilled artisans use tools, breath, to stretch and shape the molten glass. No molds, no shortcuts—just hands and glass mastery. Once shaped, the piece is carefully placed in an annealing kiln, where it is slowly cooled over hours. This process strengthens the glass and prevents stress fractures, ensuring durability. Each item is hand-polished, checked for structural integrity, and examined to ensure it carries Rustic Horse principals — unique imperfections and flawed only in the way true art should be.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

We primarily use borosilicate glass, known for its exceptional clarity, heat resistance, and strength. It’s the same high-quality glass used in scientific labs and premium kitchenware. It is less prone to breaking from thermal shock, making it ideal for both decorative and functional items. Borosilicate is also lead-free and food-safe, ensuring safety and sustainability.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

To create vibrant hues and patterns, we utilise coloured glass rods and glass frits (crushed glass particles). We use both Indian-made and imported artistic glass colours, to achieve a rich and diverse palette. Raw material is sourced from Local Traders in North India.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

While borosilicate glass can be recycled at specialised glass facilities. Rustic Horse glassware is not compostable, as it is made from borosilicate glass. Its a durable, non-biodegradable material designed to last a lifetime or more. Its longevity is what makes it highly sustainable in other ways.
