What is the manufacturing process?
Clay Extraction and Preparation: Clay Acquisition: The process begins with extracting suitable clay, often from riverbeds or specific clay deposits. Purification: The raw clay is then refined to remove impurities like stones, lumps, and other unwanted materials. This can involve sieving and filtering the clay. Mixing and Kneading: The clay is mixed with water and thoroughly kneaded to achieve a uniform, pliable consistency, removing air bubbles. Potter's Wheel: The potter's wheel is a common tool for shaping symmetrical forms. Once shaped, the terracotta can be decorated with various techniques, such as carving or adding surface details. Air Drying: After shaping, the terracotta is allowed to dry slowly, usually in a shaded area, to prevent cracking. Even Drying: The drying process is crucial to avoid uneven shrinkage and cracking. The dried terracotta pieces are placed in a kiln, which is a specialized oven, and fired at a high temperature.
