About House of Ara

House of Ara - Brown Living™

Our mission is to create timeless, versatile clothing that blends style with sustainability.

House of Ara began with a simple belief that fashion can be beautiful without costing the earth. I started the brand to bring together my love for style and my commitment to sustainability, creating clothing that blends traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern, wearable designs. We work in small batches, use natural fabrics, and partner with artisans to keep heritage techniques alive. Our goal is to build a wardrobe that women treasure for years, timeless pieces that are versatile, comfortable, and kind to the planet. For us, fashion is not just about what you wear, but the story it tells.

Through our small-batch, sustainable approach, we’ve helped reduce textile waste by producing only what is needed. By working directly with artisan clusters, we’ve supported livelihoods and helped preserve traditional crafts. Our use of natural fabrics and low-impact dyes has minimized water and chemical usage, while our 100% plastic-free packaging has kept harmful waste out of landfills. Each garment is designed for longevity, encouraging mindful consumption and reducing the fashion industry’s footprint.

We collaborate with artisan clusters and small workshops instead of working directly with individual artisans. As production is shared across these groups, we do not have an exact count of the total number of artisans whose skills contribute to our collections, but each piece reflects their craftsmanship and heritage techniques.

Artisan Livelihoods

What is the manufacturing process?

We follow a small-batch, made-to-order approach to avoid overproduction and waste. Our garments are crafted in collaboration with skilled artisans and small workshop, where each piece is cut, stitched, and finished by hand. We source natural fabrics and work with responsible dyeing methods, keeping water and chemical use to a minimum. Every step—from fabric sourcing to final quality checks—is done with care to ensure durability, comfort, and a finish that reflects our commitment to mindful craftsmanship.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

We work primarily with natural, breathable fabrics such as handloom cotton, organic cotton, and silks, along with traditional techniques like tie-dye and other artisan-crafted weaves. Our trims and finishes are chosen for durability and comfort, avoiding synthetic blends wherever possible. We also use low-impact dyes and ensure our packaging is plastic-free, opting for recycled or compostable materials. Every material we choose reflects our commitment to quality, longevity, and a lighter footprint on the planet.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

We source our fabrics directly from trusted artisan clusters and weaving communities across India. By working closely with these makers, we ensure that our materials are ethically produced, fairly traded, and of the highest quality. Most of our fabrics are handwoven or naturally derived, supporting traditional skills while reducing environmental impact. We choose suppliers who share our values of transparency and responsible production.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Yes. Our garments are made from natural fabrics and trims, making them safe to repurpose or compost at the end of their life. They can be upcycled into accessories, home textiles, or kids’ clothing, extending their use and value. If composted, the natural fibers will break down without leaving harmful residues. We encourage customers to repair, reuse, or creatively transform our pieces before disposal, so they continue to bring joy while reducing waste.

Founded by Savita Jain and Mrs. Avani K Chandan

The founders of The house of Ara- Mrs. Savita Jain and Mrs. Avani K Chandan, a mother-daughter duo, are the heart, mind and soul of The house of Ara. The house of Ara is the union of their individual passion for fashion and clothes. The former was always inclined towards fashion, self-styling, and couture design. The latter found her raison d'être at a boutique in Italy and instantly identified her love for wanting to design her own fashion label. Our founders enjoy being updated on the latest fashion trends and design their collections in a way to infuse the latest fashion trends into Indian Weaves.
