Bhumi Vastra was born out of a deep concern for the environmental damage caused by the textile industry and the rise in skin-related issues due to harmful toxins in synthetic dyes. Finding no truly authentic, toxin-free, and organic clothing options in the market; our journey began. Years of research, sourcing the finest raw materials, and rigorous testing led us to create a clothing range that is not only skin-friendly but also planet-safe. Each piece is made of organic cotton fibres and naturally dyed using plant-based pigments, ensuring purity, sustainability, and a deep connection with nature. As a small women-led brand, we stand against overconsumption and ultra-fast fashion, striving to bring conscious clothing choices to those who care about their skin and the planet. We believe clothing is an extension of skincare, as skin is the most absorbent organ in the body, and so customers should have mindful clothing options to choose, that nurtures both our bodies and the environment.

Impact Created

Since our inception, we have remained committed to sustainability and community impact. We have planted over six trees, contributing directly to reforestation and a greener planet. Our team includes five skilled artisans who specialize in plant-based dyeing and sewing techniques, preserving traditional crafts while creating eco-friendly products. Our carbon footprint is proudly negative, as we use 100% plant-based, non-adulterated raw materials that are biodegradable and can return to the soil as natural compost. Beyond environmental responsibility, we also support our employees' personal lives. For example, one of our team members is a mother to a young child. On school holidays, she is welcome to bring her child to the office, allowing her to work without stress and ensuring a supportive, family-friendly workplace. Through small but meaningful actions, we strive to create a business that is both socially and environmentally conscious.

What is the manufacturing process?

At our core, we are a sustainable & conscious clothing brand committed to creating garments that are 100% biodegradable, skin-safe, and planet-safe. We began our journey with everyday essentials—comfortable innerwear and timeless t-shirts—crafted from knitted fabrics. Every step of our process is designed with care to ensure no harmful chemicals are involved. We start by sourcing certified organic cotton, which is then knitted and bio-scoured—a natural alternative to conventional RFD (Ready for Dyeing) treatments—making the fabric chemical-free and ready to absorb plant-based pigments. After washing and pre-shrinking, the fabric is cut & sewn into final garments with care, minimising wastage. These garments are dyed using natural ingredients like pomegranate peels, myrobalan seeds, acacia catechu, marigold, onion peels, neem, tulsi, and bixa seeds. Once dyed, garments are softened naturally, shade-dried, checked, ironed, and packed—ready for a thoughtful, earth-friendly wardrobe.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

Fibre - Certified Organic cotton Dyes - Plant based pigments which innately have medicinally rich properties- to colour the garments, like: pomegranate peels, myrobalan seeds, acacia catechu, marigold, onion peels, neem, tulsi, and bixa seeds. iron, etc..

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

We are very sensitive towards the carbon emissions released throughout our manufacturing process, and so most of our materials are sourced locally within the 4 Southern states of India.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Yes of course since our products contain no toxins they can be repurposed and composted at home. In fact our USP is that post manufacturing the residue of our raw materials used in the dyeing process can be used as a compost to the soil instead of becoming an effluent unlike other synthetic dyed brands and products..
