Egai was founded in 2019 under Auro Small Scale Activities (A unit of Artisana Trust) – Auroville Foundation as an activity to make craftwork out of local materials like coconut shells, Bamboo, Palmyra tree & more Eco-friendly materials. All our products are unique by design. The raw materials procured are local and Eco-friendly. We spend a great deal of time ensuring the quality of each product.

Founded by Anandabaskaran Veerappan

Anandabaskaran Veerappan


Began as a youth artisan from Sanjeevi Nagar village in the Auroville bio-region.


Grew his craft and skills over 16 years in Auroville, working in artisan and craft development.


Was inspired by support from senior Aurovillians and later became a leader/organizer within the Egai initiative.


Rajesh Dashnamoorthy


Started in Auroville making percussion instruments and developed skills in craft, digital coordination, logistics, planning and project management.


Worked in several Auroville units before involvement with Egai.
