What is the manufacturing process?
Sustainable household products like coconut coir scrubs, bamboo toothbrushes, macramé plant hangers, and wood items are crafted from natural materials through straightforward processes. Coconut coir scrubs start with soaking husks for fibre extraction via retting, followed by washing, drying, and forming into scrubbers. Bamboo toothbrushes involve cutting mature bamboo, boiling to remove sugars, carbonising, shaping handles, tufting bristles, and packaging. Macramé hangers are hand-knotted from cords around a ring using repeating square knots with beads for structure. Wood products undergo seasoning (air or kiln drying), sawing, planing, sanding, and finishing to prevent defects and enhance durability.
What are the ingredients/materials you use?
Coconut Coir for cleaning scrubs, bamboo for toothbrush and other lifestyle products, cotton, wood, stainless steel for bottles, brass, glass and biodegradable leather.
How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?
We source ethically from local Indian suppliers, like coir products, bamboo material products, Brass, wood material, cotton cloth materials, and wood from post-fruiting trees, to ensure renewability
During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?
Yes, Coconut coir scrubs are biodegradable; add worn ones to backyard compost piles after removing the thread for soil enrichment. Bamboo toothbrush handles compost at home (snap off bristles); repurpose handles as plant stakes. Macrame cotton cords and untreated wood elements break down in home compost (chip small pieces); unravel or reuse for crafts/decor. Wood products (untreated) can be chipped for compost mulch or repurposed as stakes before adding to piles in small bits.
My journey has been shaped by a background in financial education and a love for travel, exploration, and trekking. Over time, that curiosity turned toward sustainability and craftsmanship, giving rise to OIKO brand inspired by natural materials and thoughtfully made handicrafts.
