What is the manufacturing process?

The process begins with harvesting mature bamboo, grown sustainably by local farmers. The stalks are chipped into small pieces and processed into pulp using mechanical or eco-friendly chemical methods. The pulp is then washed to remove lignin and impurities, followed by oxygen-based or chlorine-free bleaching to ensure safe, hygienic fibers. Next, the pulp is diluted with water and spread on fine screens where the fibers bond into thin sheets. These sheets are pressed and dried through heated rollers to achieve the required strength, softness, and absorbency. The dried tissue paper is then rolled into large reels, which are converted into toilet rolls, facial tissues, napkins, or kitchen towels through cutting, folding, and embossing. Finally, the finished products are packaged in eco-friendly wrapping, ready for distribution. This process ensures that every tissue is soft, strong, and sustainably produced from 100% bamboo.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

Our bamboo tissues are made from 100% FSC-certified bamboo pulp (Neosinocalamus affinis), using eco-friendly, chlorine-free processes with no added dyes or fragrances. Our products are also unbleached so no chemicals are used

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

Our manufacturers have FSC certified managed bamboo forrest from which we source our raw materials. We source our raw material from FSC-certified bamboo plantations that are cultivated by local farmers. The bamboo used for our household tissue paper is grown sustainably, with government and community initiatives encouraging bamboo cultivation for decades. Today, there are hundreds of bamboo species being grown across large forested areas, ensuring a renewable and eco-friendly supply. The specific species we use for tissue production is Neosinocalamus affinis, known for its soft fibers and suitability for hygiene products.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Yes! Our bamboo tissue products are 100% biodegradable and compostable. After use, they can safely go into your home compost bin or be added to garden soil, where they naturally break down and return to the earth. This makes them an eco-friendly alternative to conventional tissues, with no plastic or harmful residues left behind.

Founded by Amrutha Narayan

As a woman navigating the world of personal care, I became increasingly unsettled by a hidden reality: almost every product that touched my body was wrapped in, or made of, plastic. From synthetic fibers in hygiene products to the hidden chemicals in daily essentials, I realized our most intimate routines were being compromised by plastic-based materials. I founded Purpleef.in with a singular, uncompromising mission: to create a world where plastic never has to touch your skin. At Purpleef, we don’t just offer "eco-friendly" alternatives; we offer the peace of mind that comes from knowing your body is being treated with the natural care it deserves.
