Mission Statement

Our mission statement is: Vegan • Handcrafted • Luxury

Impact Created

Green Hermitage has created a strong environmental, social, and economic impact by building a sustainable luxury brand rooted in ethical production and conscious consumption. Environmentally, we replace animal and plastic-based leather with certified plant-based alternatives such as apple, cactus, and coconut leather, reducing carbon footprint, tannery pollution, and animal cruelty while promoting slow fashion and waste minimization. Socially, we have generated livelihoods for 12 artisans from rural communities in Bihar and Jharkhand, many of whom were migrant workers affected by the pandemic, and today 80% of our workforce is women, reflecting our commitment to gender empowerment. Economically, we have served 400–500 paying customers, generated growing domestic and international revenue, and enabled stable incomes for artisans and small vendors. Our work aligns with 11 UN Sustainable Development Goals, proving that sustainability and scalability can coexist.

What are the key features of your vegan leather bags and wallets?

Our bags and wallets feature plant-based vegan leather, sturdy stitching, and thoughtful design details. They offer a luxury feel, durability, and practicality, with compartments and closures designed for ease of use.

Are your products available in different colors and patterns?

Yes, we offer a range of colors and patterns for our bags and wallets. Check our website for the latest collections and available options.

Are Green Hermitage products durable?

Yes, our products are crafted from high-quality, plant-based materials that offer durability comparable to traditional leather. They are designed to withstand daily use and retain their aesthetic appeal over time.

How are your bags and wallets designed?

Our designs combine classic and contemporary styles to ensure timeless appeal. We focus on practical features such as multiple compartments and adjustable straps to enhance usability.

What is the manufacturing process?

Our manufacturing process is ethical, low-impact, and artisan-led, designed to minimize environmental harm while ensuring premium quality. We begin by sourcing certified plant-based leathers such as apple, cactus, and coconut leather from responsible suppliers. The materials are then cut, stitched, and assembled by trained artisans from rural communities in Bihar and Jharkhand using handcrafted techniques rather than mass machinery, reducing energy consumption and waste. Each product goes through multiple stages of quality control, finishing, and durability checks to meet luxury standards. We use eco-friendly linings, hardware, and packaging wherever possible, and follow a slow fashion model that prioritizes small-batch production over mass manufacturing. This thoughtful, hands-on process allows us to maintain transparency, empower artisans, and create long-lasting products with a significantly lower environmental footprint than conventional leather goods.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

We use a carefully curated mix of plant-based, recycled, and eco-conscious materials to ensure our products are sustainable, durable, and luxurious. Our primary materials include certified plant-based leathers made from apple waste, cactus fibers, banana and coconut-based materials, which serve as high-quality alternatives to animal and plastic leather. For linings, we use organic cotton and recycled fabrics, and our interlinings are selected for durability and structure with minimal environmental impact. Hardware such as zippers and fittings is chosen for longevity and reduced waste, and our packaging is plastic-free and recyclable. All materials are sourced from responsible suppliers who follow ethical and environmental standards, allowing us to create products that are not only beautiful and functional but also aligned with our mission of conscious, low-impact production.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

We source our raw materials through a responsible, transparent, and sustainability-first supply chain. Our plant-based leathers—made from apple waste, cactus fibers, banana and coconut-based materials—are sourced from certified suppliers who follow strict environmental and ethical standards, ensuring reduced carbon footprint, minimal water usage, and zero animal cruelty. These materials are derived from agricultural by-products, helping divert waste from landfills and supporting circular economy practices. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure consistency, durability, and traceability of materials. For linings, hardware, and packaging, we partner with vendors who prioritize recycled, organic, and plastic-free alternatives. Wherever possible, we choose women-owned and small local businesses, strengthening inclusive supply chains while maintaining high-quality and sustainability benchmarks across our production process.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Yes, our products are designed with circularity and extended life in mind. During their life cycle, Green Hermitage products can be easily repurposed—for example, handbags can be reused as organizers, travel pouches, work bags, or storage accessories once their primary use ends. We also encourage customers to return used products through our buyback and reuse initiative, where usable parts are refurbished or upcycled into smaller accessories. While the entire product is not fully home-compostable due to hardware and layered construction, many components such as plant-based leather panels and natural fabric linings can be separated and responsibly disposed of or reused. This approach ensures minimal waste, longer product life, and reduced environmental impact beyond first use, aligning with our slow fashion and circular economy principles.
