How to Identify Freshness and Quality in Organic Coffee Beans - Brown Living™

The number of coffee consumers is proliferating in India for several reasons, including the upgrading of lifestyles and the booming technology sector. The younger generation of India has played a vital role in establishing the coffee market. They are keen on exploring and choosing a wide range of coffee varieties that were not available until a few years ago.

A lot of people across the world have become more health-conscious after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. When it comes to coffee, consuming a healthier version of it also offers several health benefits. Organic coffee beans are free from chemicals and contain pure caffeine that enhances the efficient functioning of the brain. If you are a coffee person, here's something useful to know.

Identifying the freshness and quality of organic coffee beans is essential to having a great cup of coffee. Here are a few tips that will help you determine how fresh and pure your ethically sourced coffee is.

  • Check the glossiness of the coffee beans

Healthy Organic Coffee will contain different types of oils with natural compounds. All these oils together will not only give a strong flavor but will also give a glossy appearance to the coffee beans. The freshness of your natural coffee beans is directly proportional to the shiny appearance since the appearance usually fades away with time.

  • Check the coffee roast date

The majority of the coffee producers will mention the date on the packaging on which the Sustainable Coffee was roasted. However, there are a few coffee brands that do not mention the roast date. So, in order to get the best quality and fresh coffee, make sure to pick up the one whose roast date has crossed 7 to 10 days. After 7 to 10 days from the roast date, the coffee will attain maximum and optimal freshness.

  • Check the roast type

A lot of people assume that the coffee is not fresh if it is dry and vice versa, which is an apparent misconception. There are two types of coffee roasting - dry and oily. In dry roasting, oils will not be used, but different types of oils will be used in the preparation of oily roasting. Oily beans with a glossy appearance indicate healthy coffee. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that dry beans are not always an indication of the freshness of the beans. Hence, you need to identify which roast type of coffee beans you want to roast before you determine their freshness or quality.

  • Check for any valve in the packing bag

Freshly roasted coffee beans, when sealed in packing bags, tend to release carbon dioxide over some time. Usually, coffee exporters will ship them in bags containing a one-way valve if it is a fresh and Healthy Organic Coffee so that the carbon dioxide gas will be released out through this valve. If the sealed coffee bag does not have any value or is not inflated like a balloon, it indicates that the coffee wasn't fresh at the time of packaging.

  • Plastic Bag Test

In addition to the valve theory mentioned above, you can also determine the freshness and quality of the coffee by performing a Plastic Bag Test. All you need to do is take a handful of coffee beans, put them in any freezer bag, and seal it tightly by removing air to the maximum possible extent.

Leave it as such for at least one night and check the bag the next day. If the bag is puffed up or inflated like a balloon, it indicates that the coffee is fresh. If you see little difference in the sealed bag, it indicates your coffee isn't fresh or of high quality.
