About Hōō Living

Hōō Living - Brown Living™

Hōō Living creates everyday objects grounded in material responsibility. Some of our products begin with recovered waste streams, giving overlooked materials a second life. Others are crafted from responsibly sourced, low-impact materials chosen for durability, reduced environmental intensity, and long-term value. We do not treat sustainability as a label. We treat it as a design philosophy. Each product is evaluated through measurable environmental considerations. Paper is where we begin. Every product we make is a genuine attempt to do less harm & more good.

What are the causes you support?

Carbon Neutral / Tree Plantations

What is the manufacturing process?

100% unbleached, recycled paper is printed, cut, bound and packed; ready to be sold. In binding, we offer case and perfect binding. We generally prefer using case binding for a better user experience. Manufacturing is currently done by a third party on a job work basis. Still, they cover all the ethical standards like not using child labour, offering fair wages and providing a comfortable and safe work place. All of this is done in Mumbai itself to maintain high QC levels and reduce the carbon footprint in transit.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

100% unbleached, recycled paper made using reclaimed cellulose from used sanitary napkins. Our covers are also upcycled from agricultural & textile waste, or atleast FSC certified. Our packaging is plastic-free and upcycled from agricultural or textile waste.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

We buy them directly from the manufacturers/innovators and get them to our warehouse. We then supply the raw materials to the third party manufacturer, who transforms them under our QC to make end products.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Our products are made of paper and paperboards, which can all be composted at home. The glue used to stick the cover is not compostable, though but forms a small part of the entire product. We intend to move to a more sustainable, earth friendly glue as we scale our operations.
