The name Vishesha has been inspired from word Avshesha. Avshesha meaning scraps or cut offs and Vishesha means something special, important or unique. What was once left thinking of no use we turn into something useful. At Vishesha we work with local people to create handmade products from different materials off cuts. Our journey begins with a simple concern - the growing landfills caused by fast fashion. Through our work we hope to make a small change and bring back the essence of sustainable, slow living and celebrate our culture in a fresh, contemporary use.

About Vishesha

Vishesha was born from an idea and a growing concern about leftover materials ending up in landfill and harming the environment. Watching leftover textiles and other materials being thoughtfully reused in different ways at home deeply inspired me and helped shape the vision of Vishesha. Our goal is to make more people aware of the value of upcycled products, created from pre-consumed off-cuts that are often overlooked. Through Vishesha, we aim to encourage conscious choices by highlighting the importance of sustainable, handmade products in a world increasingly driven by fast fashion and mass production.

Impact Created

In the last 8 months, Vishesha has collected 35–40 kg of off-cuts, with nearly half already transformed into meaningful handmade products and sold. We also strive to donate sample pieces to underprivileged communities, ensuring materials are shared with purpose rather than wasted.

At Vishesha, we believe in growing alongside artisans through skill development and new design opportunities. Our soft toy maker, a 19-year-old girl skilled in sewing and hand stitching, learned how to create soft toys through this journey.

What is the manufacturing process?

Vishesha Manufacturing Process At Vishesha, every product begins with thoughtfully sourced pre-consumed off-cuts and discarded materials such as textiles, brass, and other reusable resources. These materials are carefully cleaned and prepared wherever required, followed by a detailed process of sorting and cutting according to the product design and requirement. Additional materials such as glass for coasters, cotton filling for soft toys, and embroidery threads are then added when needed. Once curated and prepared, the materials are handed over to skilled local artisans, who transform them into handcrafted products with care and precision. Every creation at Vishesha is a blend of upcycling, craftsmanship, and conscious design.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

Materials We Work With at Vishesha At Vishesha, we thoughtfully transform overlooked materials into handcrafted creations. Our products are made using: Textiles – pre-consumed fabric off-cuts and surplus pieces Brass – reclaimed or discarded brass elements Wood – reusable wooden pieces and leftovers Discarded Coins – repurposed coins turned into unique accents Each material is carefully reimagined to create products that are handmade, sustainable, and meaningful.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

At Vishesha, we actively connect with handloom artisans, manufacturers, local boutique owners, and small businesses to source pre-consumed off-cuts and discarded materials that still hold value. We visit shops, workshops, and manufacturing units to identify materials that can be repurposed instead of being discarded. We also build connections online, through Instagram, and by visiting exhibitions and markets, creating a network of conscious collaborators who support sustainable practices. This thoughtful sourcing process helps transform overlooked materials into meaningful handmade creations.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Vishesha Diaries are thoughtfully designed to have a life beyond use. Once completed, they can be repurposed for storage, creative use, or composted at home, depending on the materials used. A conscious product made to leave a lighter footprint on the planet.
