About Happy Earth Studio

Happy Earth Studio - Brown Living™

Happyearth Studio began during the lockdown, when I started hand-painting terracotta products in my bedroom as a way to reconnect with my roots and express myself creatively. Growing up, I was deeply inspired by Indian local crafts and the stories they carry. Our brand focuses on reviving age-old terracotta pottery with a contemporary and joyful visual language. Over time, Happyearth Studio grew into a community-driven brand that supports women artisans from my hometown. Each product is handmade, painted by hand, and designed to bring warmth, happiness, and meaning into everyday spaces while staying rooted in sustainability and mindful consumption.

Impact Created

Through Happyearth Studio, we have created consistent livelihood opportunities for women artisans from small towns by training them in hand-painting and creative skills. We work closely with traditional potters, promote handmade processes, avoid mass production, and celebrate slow, conscious craftsmanship. Our work helps preserve traditional pottery practices while providing women with financial independence, creative expression, and skill development in a safe and supportive work environment.

What is the manufacturing process?

We work with natural terracotta clay and follow a largely handmade and low-impact production process. The base forms are created by skilled local potters at traditional pottery workshops using age-old techniques. Once fired, the pieces are brought to our studio, where they are carefully hand-painted by our team of women artisans. Each product goes through detailing, drying, quality checks, and finishing before it is packed, ensuring uniqueness and consistency in every piece.

What are the ingredients/materials you use?

Our products are primarily made using natural terracotta clay sourced locally from pottery clusters, making them breathable, earthy, and sustainable in nature. For surface detailing and illustrations, we use high-quality acrylic paints that are water-based and applied carefully by hand. Wherever possible, we avoid chemical coatings or synthetic finishes to maintain the raw, organic character of the terracotta and keep the products as close to nature as possible.

How do you source your raw materials/ ingredients?

We source our terracotta clay through trusted pottery communities and local artisans across different parts of India who have been working with this material for generations. By collaborating directly with potters instead of middlemen, we ensure ethical sourcing, fair wages, and consistent quality. Our paints and basic supplies are sourced from reliable local vendors, allowing us to support small businesses while maintaining responsible and transparent sourcing practices.

During its life and beyond, can your products be repurposed or composted at home?

Yes, our terracotta products are designed to have a long usable life and can be easily repurposed once their original use is complete. They can be reused as planters, pen holders, décor pieces, or storage containers. Since terracotta is a natural, earth-derived material, broken or unusable pieces can be safely returned to the soil or used in gardening as drainage material. This allows the product to eventually reintegrate back into nature with minimal environmental impact.

Founded by Shruti

Happyearth Studio began during the lockdown, in my bedroom, with terracotta clay, paintbrushes, and a lot of heart. I’ve always loved Indian crafts, and through this studio, I bring them to life in a way that feels playful, modern, and full of meaning.

Every piece here is handmade and hand-painted with intention. I believe art carries energy and my hope is that when you bring something from Happyearth into your home, it brings warmth, joy, and a sense of connection.

Today, I also work with women from my community, creating not just products, but a shared journey of creativity and empowerment.
